A woman killed while trying to cross I-85 in Gwinnett County early Friday was apparently intoxicated, according to authorities.

The pedestrian was identified as Jade Christensen, 39, of Buford. She was struck by a 2004 GMC Envoy after successfully crossing northbound lanes and then attempting to cross southbound I-85.

Police investigators faulted Christensen for the accident and said she was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. She died at the scene.

The accident, around 12:45 a.m., occurred south of Buford Drive in unincorporated Buford.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the driver of the vehicle that struck the woman stopped and called police.

Gwinnett authorities identified the driver as John Evans, 64, of Donnahue.
