A Cobb County man is accused of cashing out thousands of dollars worth of stock belonging to his elderly father-in-law and opening several credit cards using the victim's Social Security number.
Donald Eye, 53, allegedly cashed $18,701.07 worth of checks from the sale of stocks belonging to the 83-year-old victim, who suffers from dementia, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC.
Eye also allegedly used his father-in-law's Social Security number to open up credit card accounts through Citigroup, American Express, Capital One, Discover, and Chase, the warrant states. Eye allegedly listed himself as the authorized user on the cards and assigned his personal cell phone number and email address as the point of contact for the cards, police said.
Eye then used the cards to make withdrawals and purchases totaling more than $28,000, the warrant states. Charges made by Eye totaled $13,284.35 on one card and $13,115.00 on another, according to the warrant. The crimes allegedly began in March 2011.
Another family member reported the alleged crimes to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, which investigated the case. Eye was arrested Saturday morning at his Kennesaw home and remained Tuesday in the Cobb County jail, where he was being held on $100,000 bond, according to booking records.
Eye faces numerous felony charges, including five counts of identity fraud, three counts of credit card fraud, two counts of elder abuse and theft by deception, jail records show.
A family member declined to speak about the case when contacted by the AJC, citing the ongoing investigation.
