A northwest Georgia man remained in jail Friday after he allegedly stole a school bus and walked away from it after wrecking it.

Jason Lee Souther, 26, was being held in the Gordon County Jail after being arrested Tuesday. He struck a basketball goal and an apartment building after stealing a 2000 Bluebird bus in Calhoun, police told the Calhoun Times.

After crashing into the goal, Souther then put the bus in reverse and struck the roof above an apartment door, witnesses told police. Souther then was seen walking away, carrying a plastic bottle containing alcohol, police said.

Souther told officers he took the bus because the keys were inside, according to the newspaper. Souther faces numerous charges, including theft by taking of a motor vehicle, DUI, striking a fixed object and probation violation, according to jail records.
