A Cartersville woman is accused of starving her parents' exotic birds to death and stealing items from their home while they were out of town.

Caylin Leeann Dorch, 25, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of theft By taking and two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, Sgt. Jonathan Rogers with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office said.

In November, Dorch was left to care for two exotic birds, described as a 19-year-old Congo African gray and an 8-year-old Green Cheek Conure, worth $3,200, Rogers said. But investigators say Dorch didn't take care of the two pets.

"Dorch neglected to feed and otherwise care for the birds and as a result, they both died," Rogers said.

Dorch also allegedly stole items from her parents' Emerson home and then sold them at pawn shop, according to police.

She remained in the Bartow County Jail Thursday, where she was being held on $10,000 bond, Rogers said.
