Fast thinking by a Cobb County police officer and an off-duty Austell officer resulted in the capture of a man who allegedly snatched a bank deposit bag from a restaurant manager and ran Wednesday.
Cobb police ruled out a connection between the suspect and a string of robberies described the day before involving Burger Kings and other fast-food restaurants across the metro Atlanta area.
A business manager of the Taco Bell at 1642 Mulkey Road, Austell, was walking to her car with the bank bag about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday when she was approached and pushed down by a man who grabbed the bag and ran away, police said.
The Cobb officer, who was making a traffic stop on nearby Austell Road, saw the man running across the highway and chased him on foot, police said. The off-duty Austell officer joined the pursuit and used his Taser device to bring down the suspect.
Police charged James Larry McGlocton, 26, of Austell with robbery, simple battery and obstruction. He was being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
On Tuesday, Gwinnett County police said they and authorities in Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties were looking for a man suspected of robbing at gunpoint about 20 Burger King restaurants, at least two Taco Bells and one or two KFCs since late April.
Burger King is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Gwinnett police detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404 577-8477.
