The wife of an Alpharetta police captain was arrested Friday, accused of stealing up to $12,000 while working as a volunteer for the Alpharetta High School booster club.

Fulton County School police charged Patricia Harth, who has a child at the school, with theft by conversion. Meanwhile, her husband, Capt. Kirk Harth, was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into possible involvement in or knowledge of his wife's alleged larceny. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct the inquiry, Alpharetta Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said.

"While there has been no indication that Captain Harth had anything to do with this situation, the City of Alpharetta believes it is important that a full and independent investigation be conducted," Drinkard said in a statement.

Harth's fellow boosters first noticed irregularities in fundraising totals last May, Fulton County school spokeswoman Susan Hale said. Investigators say Harth set up a separate bank account for the pilfered money, with deposits continuing through March.
