Conyers residents can now learn about crime in their neighborhoods via text messages and emails.

The Conyers Police Department has started using Nixle, a service that allows police to send messages about road closures, suspect descriptions and serious incidents, Chief Gene Wilson said.

Residents can sign up for the free alerts at www.nixle.com. Standard text messaging fees apply.
