The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has awarded a $1.3 million contract to an engineering consulting firm to handle right-of-way acquisitions for the Bells Ferry Road widening.

Moreland-Altobelli Associates LLC submitted the highest-scoring proposal of five firms, county staff told commissioners.

Cherokee County is working with the Georgia Department of Transportation to widen about 1.6 miles of Bells Ferry from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane divided highway from Victory Drive to North Victoria Road northwest of Woodstock.

“GDOT is funding the engineering and construction phases of the project, and Cherokee County is funding the acquisition of right of way,” staff said. “There are approximately 140 parcels to be acquired, including right of way, permanent easements and temporary easements. There will be several parcels that require relocation.”

Moreland-Altobelli will be responsible for services including project set-up, title research, appraisal, acquisition, condemnation, relocation and surplus property management, staff said.
