Connector repaving to close four lanes tonight

Braves fans heading home after tonight's game against the Phillies will want to avoid the northbound Downtown Connector, where the state Department of Transportation will be doing major overnight repaving.

The DOT plans to close the four right lanes of I-75/85 northbound between North Avenue and the 17th Street bridge, beginning at 8 p.m., according to spokesman Paul Marshall. The lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. Thursday.

The two left lanes of I-75 southbound will be shut down between Northside Drive and North Avenue during the same hours.

Marshall said Braves fans and other motorists should "expect delays approaching the Brookwood Interchange."

The repaving work will continue Thursday night, when the four left lanes, including the HOV lane, will be shut down from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday between North Avenue and 17th Street.

Weather permitting, the four left lanes will be closed again beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and continuing through 11 p.m. Saturday, when the lane closures will shift to the four right lanes through 5 a.m. Monday.

"There's rain in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, so this weekend's northbound work may be subject to change," Marshall said.
