On Tuesday, Cobb County commissioners set May 27, June 17, July 1, Aug. 5 and Sept. 2 as the dates for county employees’ mandated furloughs. The five furlough days are part of a plan approved earlier this month to close a $27 million budget gap.

The unpaid days  apply to employees that fall under the commission’s control and not employees of constitutional officers, such as the court system and tax commissioner’s office. Those directors could cut other expenses to make up the budget deficit in their departments.

The furlough days are expected to save the county's general fund $3.3 million.
