The man found shot to death in a car Thursday afternoon has been identified as 31-year-old Jonathan David Pearcy of Mableton, Cobb County police said Friday.

The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

Neighbors told police that two cars were parked in the driveway of a home in the 6100 block of at Blackhawk Trail.  Neighbors said they heard arguing followed by gunshots, said Officer Joseph Hernandez, a police spokesman.

One of the cars drove off. The second one rolled into a ditch. Police found Pearcy dead inside the stopped car.

Investigators have not released a description of the vehicle that drove off.

Authorities canvassed the neighborhood, and Hazmat officials were on the scene as well.

Neighbors talked about heavy traffic coming up and down Blackhawk Trail by the house where police say the shooting happened.

"We have good neighbors," Cheryl Brackett told AM 750 and now 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB. "But I get suspicious when I see people walking, and I know they don't live here."

April Williams told WSB Radio that she hears gunshots all of the time. The fact that someone was killed nearby was enough for her.

"I'm getting out of here. I'm moving in two days," she said.

Anyone with information on the killing is urged to call police at 770-499-3945.
