Two pedestrians have been killed on Cobb County roads in two days and a third was left seriously injured, police reports show.

The latest incident occurred Friday night when a woman attempting to cross Austell Road south of Floyd Road stepped into the path of a car traveling northbound, Cobb police said.

Wendy L. Nolan, 39, of Austell was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman.

The driver of the 2004 Toyota Corolla that hit Nolan, Jasmine N. Hamm of Austell, was not expected to be charged, Bowman said

It was the second fatality in two days involving a pedestrian in Cobb.

On Thursday, Charles H. Collins, 66, a former McEachern High School head football coach and Atlanta Falcons chaplain, was attempting to cross Atlanta Road in Smyrna just before 7 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado.

Collins was taken to Emory Adventist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Silverado, Nicholas W. Bryant, 25, of Carrollton, stopped after the collision and was not expected to be charged.

Also on Thursday, Preston Lee Hester, 62, of Greensboro, N.C., was trying to cross Powder Springs Road near Oxford Road against the light when he was hit by a 2002 Toyota Camry.

Hester was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Bowman, the police spokesman, said alleged alcohol use by Hester is suspected to be a contributing factor in the incident.

The driver of the Toyota that struck Hester, 44-year-old Craig S. Goldstein of Marietta, stopped and was not expected to be charged.
