The Cobb County Board of Commissioners accepted a federal grant of $359,733 on Sept. 24 for a program coordinator and technology improvements in the Cobb District Attorney’s office.
The money comes from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Fiscal Year 2019 Innovative Prosecution Solutions for Combating Violent Crime initiative.
These federal funds will be used for adult sexual assault program services and technology improvements for the office of Cobb District Attorney Joyette Holmes.
This grant will fund a program coordinator and provide training and program funds for the District Attorney and program partners to continue work started with a previous grant to develop policies, procedures and practices to improve felony sexual assault case processing and outcomes.
Those partnerships are with liveSAFE Resources, Inc., the Cobb County Police Department and Kennesaw State University.
Grant funds also will provide for technology improvements for Cobb Police’s response to adult sexual assault victims.
Matching funds will be met with existing Cobb District Attorney resources.
This grant opportunity is for a 24-month period with the award period of Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2020.
The funded position for the program coordinator will be terminated if federal grant funds are ended and no other alternate funding source is available.
