An account manager at a Cobb County dental company was arrested for allegedly stealing $84,000 in fake customer refunds over about half a decade, Channel 2 Action News reported Monday.

A police warrant details how investigators believe 40-year-old Essence Boatwright used her Carestream Dental login to access 35 customer accounts between May 2012 and January 2017 and issued $84,750.63 in customer credit card refunds to her private checking account.

Her role at Carestream, located in The Exchange office park off Terrell Mill Road, had Boatwright approving customers’ credit applications and analyzing the credit of applicants.

According to the warrant, her job allowed her “access to customers banking and credit card information that’s attached to account, and identify and resolve clients’ payments.”

Boatwright, of Smyrna, was booked into jail Dec. 7 on felony charges of computer theft and theft by taking, Cobb jail records indicate. She was released about seven hours later after posting an $85,000 bond.

Her next court date was not immediately available.
