A Clayton County grand jury has indicted an Ellenwood teenager accused of fatally shooting his former girlfriend in the chest earlier this year.
Kevin Kosturi, who will be tried as an adult, is accused of killing 16-year-old Angel Hope Freeman on Feb. 21. Kosturi, who is now 16, was 15 years old at the time.
The Clayton County clerk of Superior Court’s office said Friday the case is on the trial calendar for Monday.
Court records show Kosturi and Freeman were in a makeshift fort built in a wooded area near Kosturi’s home when Freeman told the boy she didn’t think he would shoot her with the .38-caliber revolver he was holding.
He did, police said.
At first, Kosturi told authorities that a stranger shot his former girlfriend, according to the records obtained by Channel 2 Action News. He then said the girl accidentally shot herself.
Kosturi later confessed and showed police where to find the revolver in a creek, authorities said.
Police said Kosturi told neighbor Robert Bethune he needed a gun because someone was threatening him.
Kosturi, who had no criminal record, was indicted on several charges, including murder, aggravated assault, lying to authorities and tampering with evidence. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a minor. His bond was set at $55,000.
Bethune was charged with furnishing a weapon to a person under 18, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
