Clayton teen critical after shooting self in face

A 17-year-old boy remains in critical condition after apparently shooting himself in the face Thursday afternoon in Clayton County, Officer India Smith said Friday morning.

Police continue to investigate exactly what happened on Thursday, and no charges have been filed, Smith said.

It appears Zabian Harris accidentally shot himself, according to Lt. Tina Daniel with Clayton County police. Five males were in a Highland Woods apartment off Riverdale Road at the time of the shooting, she said.

"At some point, one of them shot themselves with a silver revolver," Daniel said Thursday night.

The bullet entered the right side of Zabian's face and through his jaw, Daniel said. The teen remains in very critical condition at Southern Regional hospital, she said.

The others in the apartment were all interviewed and released, Daniel said. No charges have been filed, and it is still unclear who owns the gun.

Zabian previously attended North Clayton High School, Daniel said. Investigators are not sure if or where he is currently enrolled.
