A Clayton County sheriff's deputy is in critical but stable condition at an area hospital after she was struck head-on by an alleged drunk driver while riding her motorcycle, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Deputy Amy Marie Kemper, who was off duty, was hurt Saturday night when the Harley-Davidson motorcycle she was riding collided head-on with an SUV driven by Christopher Lynn Brown on Ga. 29 near Lake Ridge Way in Coweta County, authorities said.

“She's sedated right now. She's not able to communicate and talk with anybody right now,” Keith Mclaughlin of the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2.

Brown’s Chevrolet Blazer was southbound on U.S. 29 when it crossed into the northbound lane, left the road, ran over a mailbox, came back onto the road and crashed head-on into Kemper on her motorcycle, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The Hogansville man allegedly kept driving for nearly a mile before his damaged Blazer broke down.

Kemper was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center, where she remained Wednesday.

“Doctors say all of the signs look good and that she'll be recovering well from the surgeries that she's had,” McLaughlin said.

Kemper was appointed supervisor of student resource officers for the sheriff’s office about a month ago.

Brown is being held without bond, charged with DUI, causing a serious injury by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident, authorities said.
