Clayton County Water Authority recently earned the Champion of Diversity award from the Georgia Section of the American Water Works during the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) annual conference in July, according to a press release.

This award recognizes ‘an individual, group, or organization that has created, promoted and maintained diversity by establishing an environment that recognizes, encourages, and effectively utilizes each individual’s talents.’ GAWWA recognizes the role of diversity as being essential to the growth, structure, and continued success of any organization. Diversity should be an inherent trait of any organization and is manifest in the mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, values, and beliefs as assets to a group or organization in which they interact.

CCWA has a utility-wide Talent Development program and Succession Planning to ensure diverse talent is recognized and followed. This program gives employees on the executive management and management level an implementation tool to monitor the development of potential leaders within the utility. CCWA’s management team meets every six months to take a fresh look at the development of potential leaders and also discuss the diversity of individual departments and the utility as a whole. Diverse candidates are also selected for the GAWP Leadership Academy yearly amongst managers/supervisors to enhance their skills for a viable, inclusive workforce.

GAWWA will submit CCWA for the national AWWA Champion of Diversity Award.
