An 8-month-old boy allegedly taken from state authorities by his noncustodial parents was found safe and returned Thursday morning, police said.
“We’re so glad he’s safe,” Clayton County Police spokeswoman Officer Chandi Ashmore told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about Montevius Vius Whitfield.
Both parents, a juvenile teen mother and 17-year-old father Montevius Terrell Howard, were arrested, Ashmore said.
Howard was booked into the Clayton County jail around 3 a.m. Thursday on kidnapping and interference with custody charges, according to jail records.
The mother was not identified because she is a minor.
Police say the couple drove away from the Smith Transitional and Rehabilitation Services office Tuesday during a supervised visit with the child.
A worker for the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services was monitoring the the visit when the mother went to the restroom with the child, and subsequently left the building, police said.
DFCS spokeswoman Ravae Graham declined to comment about the case or whether any disciplinary action was taken against the worker.
