Roswell Presbyterian Church has suspended its interim organist after discovering Wednesday that he's facing a child pornography charge.
Jeremy Rush, 34, of Mableton, had worked at the church for two months. One condition of his bond is that he not be around children under 16.
"He has been placed on administrative leave pending further inquiry," the Rev. Tim Read told the AJC Thursday. "We only learned of the charges against him yesterday afternoon. ... He hasn't been convicted, and he didn't show up on any offender lists."
Read added that "we have no reason to believe he has posed a threat to children or others in our church, but we take these matters very seriously. We have no higher priority than the safety and well-being of the youth and children in our care."
The church, on Mimosa Boulevard, has 2,600 members.
Cobb County records show Rush was arrested Jan. 16 and released six days later on $50,000 bond.
Rush's arrest warrant asserts that more than 70 video files of child porn were found on his home computer, CBS Atlanta reported.
