The Fayette County church that previously employed an alleged child molester was not aware of any inappropriate behavior, the church said Tuesday.
Nathan Donald Moore, 23, faces six counts of aggravated child molestation, six counts of child molestation and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes for allegedly having sexual contact with a juvenile in his family's home, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
Neither the victim's age or sex are being released, Investigator Brent Rowan told the AJC Tuesday. Investigators have no reason to believe that there is more than one victim, Rowan said.
Moore, of Senoia, was arrested Oct. 27 and charged with the crimes, which allegedly took place between January and August, police said. Moore is jailed without bond until his Nov. 29 court date, a spokesman for the jail told the AJC.
Moore previously worked as a youth pastor at Heritage Christian Church in Fayetteville, according to the church. But Moore was fired for not following direction, a spokesman for the church said.
The church released the following statement Tuesday to the AJC:
"Nathan is not on our staff. He is a former youth minister whom we terminated several months ago for refusing to follow the lead and direction of the senior pastor and elders. At no time was it known that he was engaged in any activity as described in the charges. To restate: during Nathan's employment, the leadership and staff were never aware of or in possession of any knowledge of any activity of which he is accused."
The investigation into the alleged crimes continues.
