Two children and a teenager are expected to recover after being burned in a house fire Friday afternoon in Gwinnett County.

The juveniles, ages 6, 9 and 15, all suffered moderate to significant burns on their upper bodies, according to Lt. Eric Eberly with the Gwinnett County fire department. After being treated outside their Tara Court home, near Stone Mountain, all three were transported to Grady Medical Center, Eberly said.

Firefighters were dispatched to the one-story home around 3:30 p.m. and were met at the door by the children and teen, Eberly said. The children's mother was at work at the time the fire started.

Investigators believe the fire started by unattended food cooking in the kitchen, which was significantly damaged. The fire caused moderate smoke damage throughout the home, Eberly said.

Firefighters had the blaze extinguished shortly after 4 p.m.
