Investigators have not yet determined the cause of a fire that killed two children Sunday morning in Coweta County.

Firefighters found heavy flames extending into the attic when they arrived at the Grantville home shortly after 6 a.m., Patricia Palmer, spokeswoman for the county, told the AJC.

Searchers found the bodies of two girls, ages 5 and 9, inside a bedroom of the Roger Arnold Road, Deputy Fire Chief Todd Moore told Channel 2 Action News. Five other children in the home and two adults were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The home did not have working smoke detectors, said Palmer, who urged others to check the detectors in their own homes.

“If they can’t get one, stop at the fire station and put the word out," Palmer said. "Firefighters metro-wide will do what they can to help."
