Cherokee school employees honored for work with disabled students
Two Cherokee County School District educators have won top awards for service to students with disabilities.
Adaptive Physical Education teacher Dave Martinez won the William A. Hillman Distinguished Service Award for his work with the disabled, including coordinating the Cherokee County Special Olympics. The national award was presented at a conference in Washington, D.C., last month.
Assistive Technology Specialist for CCSD’s special education office Joyce Pufnock won the Tools for Life Innovation Award, a statewide honor given to those who have demonstrated outstanding design of a project, product, building or classroom for people with disabilities. Pufnock was awarded at a June conference.
Both were to be recognized at the Cherokee County Board of Education meeting on Thursday.
