A $2.7 million construction contract has been awarded by Cherokee County to improve the intersection of East Cherokee Drive and Holly Springs Parkway/Old Highway 5 at the south end of Holly Springs.
The county Board of Commissions accepted the bid by CMES Inc. of Norcross, the lowest of four, to construct dual left-turn lanes from Holly Springs Parkway to East Cherokee eastbound, and dual left-turn lanes from East Cherokee to Holly Springs Parkway southbound.
The work also calls for a right-turn lane from East Cherokee to Mill Creek Road, and additional receiving lanes on East Cherokee and Holly Springs Parkway.
The contract specifies that CMES may not interfere with traffic flow from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday without county permission; and that it will maintain access to Marjoe Lane until a new tie-in to the street is completed.
