The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved a $3.67 million construction services agreement to build a new Cherokee Fire & Emergency Services station to replace an existing one in Canton.

BM&K Construction Inc. was awarded the contract for the new North Canton Fire Station 9 at 1467 Reinhardt College Parkway. Designed by Wiley Wilson Architects, the firehouse will be built on 10.5 acres across from the present Station 9.

With a $150,000 contingency and $100,000 for furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), the total capital commitment by the county is $3.92 million, staff said in a report to commissioners.

“A budget amendment (of $869,875) is necessary to cover the increase in construction costs, FF&E and contingency,” staff said. “Canton Impact Fees and Fire Impact Fees will be used to make up the difference from the original budget to the expected capital commitment.”

Commissioners also approved the budget amendment. Work is to be completed within 330 days of the notice to proceed, according to the construction agreement.
