A special-use permit allowing an indoor shooting range and training center has been approved by Cherokee County for Reinhardt College Parkway near Canton.

The county Board of Commissioners approved the permit request by B&B Outdoors Inc. for a “2 Bear Arms” 10-lane shooting range. The facility is proposed for a site of about one acre at 2196 Reinhardt College, next to an existing B&B Outdoors sporting goods store.

“The applicant states that the indoor shooting range will be enclosed by a solid concrete building with a bullet trap, ballistic panels, and baffles to ensure no projectiles exit the building,” and a ceiling-mounted ventilation system will exceed federal regulations for air circulation, according to a Planning Commission staff report.

The business may employ seven full-time and eight part-time employees and is expected to operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, staff said.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
