An 18-year-old Cobb County man is accused of shooting to death a man following a fight, police said Monday.

Tony Lee Grant Jr., of Marietta, has been charged with murder in the death of Jefferson Joseph, 23, Cpl. Ashley Henson with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said. The death was the first homicide of the year in Paulding County.

Joseph, of Hiram, was shot in the chest shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday on Macland Road, near Hiram, Henson said. Joseph was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The GBI assisted deputies with the investigation, and Grant was located Friday with help from the U.S. Marshals Service, Henson said. Grant was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Paulding County Jail, where he remained Monday without bond, jail records show.

Grant has also been charged with felony aggravated assault, according to police.

More arrests in the killing are expected, Henson said. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-443-3015.
