An abandoned century-old south DeKalb County house was destroyed by fire early Monday.

Firefighters received the call about the fire on Hayden Quarry Road behind The Mall at Stonecrest about 5:30 a.m., DeKalb fire Capt. Stephen Scroggins told the AJC.

Scroggins said that arriving firefighters found the vacant house 90 percent involved in flames.

“It was a pretty large fire when crews got here,” Scroggins said. Flames and smoke could be seen from nearby I-20.

The house, which Scroggins said is about 100 years old, was destroyed.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
