A Cartersville man pleaded no contest Friday to killing his father and father’s girlfriend in Florida, the Tampa Tribune has reported.
Kyle Aric Thomas, 33, was sentenced to back-to-back life sentences without the possibility of parole, the Tribune said.
Thomas had been in the Land O’Lakes jail since 2005 after he was arrested on a probation violation charge in Cartersville in January of that year.
The arrest happened two days after the bodies of Craig Thomas, 54, and Irene Martin, 45 were found in the bathroom of their Zephyrhills home, the Tribune said.
Thomas had moved to Florida around that time so he could live with his father and attend a methadone clinic, court records state.
A police officer went to the home to check on the couple after Martin’s sister reported that she had not heard from her in two weeks, the Tribune said.
The officer entered the house to find the thermostat set to 55 degrees. Thomas had been stabbed in the chest seven times; Martin’s throat had been sliced, the Tribune said.
Tests showed the carpets had been steam-cleaned to remove bloodstains, court records said. Blood also had been cleaned off a chair and the couch, according to the Tribune.
