The City of Canton is cautioning residents about a scam. Several citizens reported that they were contacted about an unpaid water bill and told they could pay their balance over the phone by providing a credit card number.

Canton Water Department officials said they only contact customers by mail or by leaving a notice on their door – never by phone. They urge customers to verify their balance by calling the Water Department at (770) 704- 1502 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

If you believe you’ve been a victim of this scam, contact the Canton Police Department at (770) 720-4883, or by calling Cherokee 911 at the non-emergency number, (678) 493-4080.
