Candidate qualifying in Fayette County closes March 6

Fayette County citizens interested in running for public office in November must file candidate qualifying paperwork by noon on March 6.

Terms up for election include Board of Commissioner District 1 (currently held by Eric Maxwell), District 2 (currently held by Randy Ognio and District 5 (an at-large seat now held by Charles Oddo). Also open will be Board of Education District 1 (now held by Barry Marchman), District 3 (currently held by Scott Hollowell) and District 5 (an at-large seat now held by Brian Anderson). Other races are for county sheriff, tax commissioner and coroner, as well as probate court judge, magistrate judge, solicitor general of the state court, and clerk of the superior court. Those running on behalf of the Democratic or Republican parties must register with their party offices; those running as nonpartisan write-ins have until March 13 to file an intention to be a candidate.
