Seventeen players and two coaches were treated at hospitals after a bus carrying members of The Lovett School volleyball team wrecked Friday afternoon in Florida.

No serious injuries were reported, school spokeswoman Kim Blass told the AJC. Those on the bus suffered minor injuries, such as cuts and bruises.

Both the school's varsity and junior varsity teams were heading to a camp at the University of Florida, Blass said.

The bus was traveling south on I-75 near Lake City, Fla., and was about 45 miles from the university when the wreck occurred.

Lt. Pat Riordan of the Florida Highway Patrol told the AJC that the driver, Lewis Anderson, apparently lost control of the bus at about 1:20 p.m. The bus spun counterclockwise and landed on its side.

"The vehicle continued out of control, sliding on its right side on the west shoulder of the roadway for approximately 50 feet," Riordan said.

Anderson, 72, was not injured and was charged with careless driving, Riordan said.

The school planned to send another bus to pick up the students for a return to Atlanta late Friday, Blass said. Some parents opted to drive to Florida to pick up their children, she said.

The players left the school, located on Paces Ferry Road in northwest of Atlanta, shortly before 8 a.m. Friday. They had planned to return Sunday night, according to the itinerary posted on the team's website.
