A Gwinnett County man was charged with killing his sister Wednesday in the Buford apartment where the two lived.
Investigators were called to an apartment in the 300 block of Power Avenue to conduct a welfare check around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Ed Ritter said. When officers arrived, they found Vickie Bowles, 54, dead on the floor, Ritter said.
"There were obvious signs of violence and blunt force trauma about her body," Ritter said in statement.
"Homicide investigators developed probable cause to charge the victim's brother with one count of felony murder and one count of aggravated assault," Ritter said.
Dennis Roger Puckett was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and is being held without bond.
Investigators had not determined a motive late Wednesday.
The latest homicide brings the total to nine cases worked by Gwinnett County police so far this year, according to police. The city of Norcross has had five homicides, including four people killed last month in a murder-suicide at a family-owned spa.
In 2011, county police handled 22 homicide cases, down from 44 in 2007, police said.
