Eleven people, including eight children, were taken to hospitals Friday morning after a crash involving a pickup truck and a day care bus, a spokesman with Paulding County Fire & Rescue said.

The wreck between the Paulding Preparatory Academy bus and the truck happened about 7:30 a.m. at Nathan Dean Boulevard and Merchants Drive in Dallas, Lt. Steve Mapes said.

“It was a very chaotic scene,” Paulding County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ashley Henson said.

The children, ages 6 to 10, were taken to WellStar Paulding Hospital with minor injuries, Mapes said. Two adults were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta in serious condition, he said. One adult was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell in serious condition.

The bus, which had 10 children inside, was westbound and was preparing to turn left onto Ga. 61 South, Henson said. The truck was eastbound, and the crash happened when the turn was made.

“Someone failed to yield at the intersection,” Henson said.

The truck is believed to have rolled over.

The driver of the bus, a woman, appeared to be in “significant pain,” Henson said. The men in the truck also “appeared to be disoriented and in some pain as well.”
