Four metro area teachers: Brandon Ledford from Ithica Elementary School in Villa Rica, Lori Sidenbender from Villa Rica High School, Alex Wilbanks-Bennett from the University of North Georgia in Gainesville and Morgan Montgomery from Louise Radloff Middle School in Duluth were selected to attend the White House Historical Association's exclusive, "White House History Teacher Institute" in July.

Allison Giddens of Marietta was selected as a 2019 Community Hero by the Atlanta Braves. She was recognized for her contributions to the community as founder and president of the Dave Krache Foundation, an organization she started that pays fees for children who want to play organized sports but whose parents cannot afford it.
