The little boy who was shot in the buttocks in what police described as an incident of road rage was back at home Wednesday, walking and playing.
"My butt is fine," Korda Bailey told Channel 2 Action News.
The 4-year-old was riding in a car driven by his mother near Stone Mountain on Tuesday afternoon when a single bullet flew from a passing SUV, according to DeKalb County police. The boy was rushed to the hospital with what turned out to be a minor injury.
Police called it "road rage related" because the mother said the shooting seemed to result from the way she was driving. She cut off a vehicle -- possibly a newer model white Chevy SUV -- piloted by a male with a female passenger, according to a statement by DeKalb investigators.
The SUV started tailgating her, so she pulled over to let it pass on Redan Road near Martin Road. When it did, the driver fired a handgun at her car, striking her son, who was in the backseat, strapped to a child seat.
On Wednesday, the boy was back at home, shooting hoops with a soccer ball.
"We are truly blessed that everything turned out the way it did because it could have been a whole lot worse," his mother, Tammitha Williams, told Channel 2 Action News. "What happened yesterday was God intervened and that's why he only got shot in his butt."
Police don't have a suspect, but they reviewed video from a nearby business. They said the shooter can't control himself and is a danger to society.
