Botched robbery led to fatal shooting at bowling alley, police say

Police are looking for the accomplice of a man shot dead Monday night outside a Chamblee bowling alley.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Antwan Lamar Milton, 26, who allegedly conspired with John Elliott Williams, 31, to rob an Atlanta man who thought he was going to purchase laptop computers from the duo, Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson said.

But Milton and Williams had no intention of selling the Macs to 36-year-old Rodney M. Powell, the chief said. After meeting as planned in the parking lot of 300 Atlanta on Savoy Drive near North Peachtree Road, Williams got into Powell's  car, pulled a gun and robbed him, the chief said.

"At that point Powell claims to have fired his pistol at Williams in self defense," said Johnson, adding that evidence supports Powell's account.

Milton sped off in a silver Mitsubishi Eclipe after the shooting, leaving Williams to die in the parking lot, the chief said. He's charged with felony murder and criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. Milton was out of jail on a $50,000 bond for aggravated assault and armed robbery charges related to an incident last November, Johnson said.

Charges are not expected to be brought against Powell, who eventually turned himself in after initially fleeing the parking lot.
