A boil water advisory that was supposed to end Wednesday remains in effect for the city of Canton.

A 12-inch main broke Monday night, causing low or no pressure in water lines in neighborhoods and businesses south of Cherokee High School along Marietta Highway, according to the city's website. Officials are concerned that impure water may have been siphoned into the system when water pressure fell.

Residents are advised to boil water to use for drinking, cooking or preparing baby food for at least one minute to purify it until further notice.
