The body found in Atlanta on Sunday has been identified as that of a missing Gwinnett man, police confirmed Tuesday.

Diego Ramirez, 33, of Lawrenceville was last seen by his wife Saturday when he left home to meet with friends, Gwinnett police said.

Saturday night, Gwinnett authorities responded to a suspicious activity call in the 6400 block of Buford Highway near Doraville, Cpl. Jake Smith with Gwinnett police said. The caller reported hearing screams and gunshots. Officers found blood and a spent shell casing, but no victim.

Ramirez’s vehicle was located near the crime scene.

Atlanta officers responded to a call Sunday around 3:45 p.m. and found a man’s partially dressed body on the embankment of sunken land near the intersection of Proctor and Tazor streets, police spokeswoman Officer Kim Jones said. The preliminary investigation indicated that the man had been shot several times and his body was brought to that location, she said.

Gwinnett authorities took over the homicide investigation Monday after the body found in Atlanta was linked to their missing person case.

Police are not releasing information on a motive or suspects at this time.
