At Duluth’s most recent council meeting, City Engineer Margie Pozin updated the mayor and council on the results from 5 bids received for the Rogers Bridge Project. Bids ranged from a high of $9,547,682 million to a low bid of $6,288,888. Additional monies are needed for utility relocation, construction engineering, inspection and contingency funding for a total estimated cost of $7,251,182, leaving an overall funding shortfall of about $1,016,000.

Since the bridge replacement is a joint project with several funding sources, the city has contacted the Atlanta Regional Commission who has agreed to an increase of approximately $600,000. Additional capital is being sought to close the gap, including funds from the Georgia Department of Transportation.

If GDOT does not agree to increase their match, the project’s Intergovernmental Agreement states Duluth, Fulton, Gwinnett and Johns Creek would split any overage costs.

Once additional funding is appropriated, Duluth’s council will consider approval of the low bid, with construction possibly beginning after Thanksgiving.
