The Henry County Board of Commissioners voted June 19 to approve a $5,237,611 bid for construction of the McDonough Parkway extension (Henry Connector) project.

The accepted bid was from CMES Inc., one of five bids submitted. The project is part of the county’s current SPLOST and $4,571,403 in county funds have been budgeted for it. The city of McDonough has budgeted $750,000 of its own SPLOST money for it as well. The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to install a temporary traffic signal at the intersection of Hwy. 20/81 and McDonough Parkway, and the commissioners to approve a measure that will keep it there until construction on the widening of that highway begins. The estimated cost to keep the signal is $86,155 and that cost will be shared between the county and McDonough.

An intergovernmental agreement needs to be approved to finalize the move.
