Emily Lam of SKA Academy in Duluth and Raquel Charles of Sequoyah High School in Cherokee County have received National PTA Reflections Outstanding Interpretation awards. Emily won for visual arts and Raquel won for dance choreography. Winners are chosen in six arts categories along with 188 awards of excellence and merit. The Reflections program is one of the country's oldest and largest arts recognition programs.

Three University of Georgia honors students have been named 2012 Udall Scholars. Winners are Heather Hatzenbuhler of Lawrenceville; Malavika Rajeev of Tifton and Theresa Stratmann of Irmo, S.C. The $5,000 scholarships are given annually to outstanding sophomores and juniors pursuing careers related to environmental issues or Native American public public policy.

Four high school bands are the winners of the ninth annual Youth Jazz Band competition. The winning bands will perform at the Atlanta Jazz Festival during Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28 at Piedmont Park. A dozen middle and high school jazz bands competed April 28. Judges planned to pick three winners but created a fourth spot because the competition was so stiff. First place: Benjamin E. Mays Jazz Orchestra (performing Monday, May 28 at 1 p.m.); second place: Woodland High School Jazz Band (performing Sunday, May 27 at 1 p.m.; third place: Martin Luther King, Jr. High School Big Band (performing Monday, May 28 at 12:30 p.m.; and fourth place: J.C. Young Middle School Jazz Ensemble (performing Sunday, May 27 at 12:30 p.m.).

Paige Pate has received a $4,000 scholarship from the Gwinnett County Board of REALTORS® Scholarship Foundation. Paige is a senior at Jefferson High School where she is a member of the student council, National Beta Club, National Spanish Honor Society, Total Person Program and High Five Club. She has lettered four years in varsity softball and three years in varsity golf. She is graduating with honors and plans to attend the University of Georgia and major in pre-law.
