Pleasant, busy and congested.
That pretty much will sum up metro Atlanta's weather and traffic picture through the weekend.
Today will be mostly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers and highs in the mid 90s, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton.
Nice weather for a busy Friday that will showcase at least three major events: a Braves game at Turner Field, featuring a ceremony to retire former Braves' longtime manager Bobby Cox's No. 6 jersey; the Falcons' exhibition opener against the Miami Dolphins at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgia Dome and the start of a Women of Faith conference that is expected to draw 10,000 people to Philips Arena.
Wait, there's more pleasant weather news. Expect a cool front to arrive late Saturday night, Minton said. It will bring temps down into the upper 80s, Minton said. That'll be perfect weather for the continuation of the Braves celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 1991 season -- when the team went from worst to first -- to arouse a city and redefine a franchise. The ‘91 team will be honored at Turner Field before Saturday night's 7:10 game against the Cubs.
Meanwhile heavy road work will add to the weekend congestion, including in Fulton:
-- Three right lanes of I-75 southbound will be closed from University Avenue to the Cleveland Avenue exit ramp from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
-- The exit ramp from I-75 southbound to I-85 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m Saturday.
