Bank robber and employee exchange gunfire

Police are searching for a robber who got into a shootout with a bank employee in Griffin.

The masked man walked into the First National Bank on Zebulon Road on Thursday and demanded workers fill a bag with cash, Griffin Police spokesman Investigator Bryan Clanton said.

The suspect then pointed a gun at employees, Clanton said.

That's when gunfire erupted. The robber exchanged gunfire with an employee, Clanton said.

No injuries were reported.

Police are asking the public to help locate the suspect.

"The suspect is considered armed, and considered a threat to anyone he encounters," Clanton said.

He is described as a black male, about 30 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing 200-250 pounds. He was wearing black pants, a black hoodie, a black ski mask, and black and red gloves.

He was last seen fleeing in a dark blue, four-door Chrysler, possibly a Sebring.

Anyone with information is urged to call Griffin detectives at 770-229-9911.
