Instead of continuing to use Republic Services, the Austell City Council voted on Sept. 9 to switch to Waste Pro for the city’s sanitation and recycling service for residential customers.
As the low bidder of five companies, Waste Pro will charge $9.17/month for collection of solid waste, $6.17/month for an extra trash bin, $6.50/month for recycling and $4.50/month for an extra recycling bin.
Residents can choose to opt out of recycling to avoid paying those monthly fees, said Mayor Pro Tem and Councilwoman Valerie Anderson, chairperson of the Public Works Department Committee.
In other business, the City Council agreed to pay $11,700 to PKS Paving and Concrete Construction of Atlanta to replace sidewalk and curb at 2671 Jefferson St. to make them compliant with the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
Funding will come from the 2011 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
