It's official: Atlanta voters will decide on Nov. 8 whether retailers should be allowed to sell take-home beer, wine and distilled spirits.

The City Council voted Monday to authorize Mayor Kasim Reed to enter into a contract with Fulton County to conduct the tally, which will be piggy-backed onto an already-scheduled special election. The city agreed to pay the county up to $17,050 to run the election.

Atlanta is the latest and highest-profile entity in the state to schedule a vote on Sunday alcohol sales.

Earlier this year, a General Assembly effort to allow communities to vote on Sunday sales was basically given up for dead and then resurrected late in the session.

Most of Gwinnett County's 15 cities also plan November votes on the issue. Cherokee County's initiative to schedule an alcohol vote for November passed earlier this year with little resident opposition.

Kennesaw, Smyrna and Acworth in Cobb County also have approved alcohol votes in November.
