Atlanta woman collects $250K 2nd prize from record Mega Millions jackpot

It's a pretty sweet consolation prize.

An Atlanta woman has come forward to collect her $250,000 prize from last Friday's record-breaking $656 million Mega Millions jackpot.

Tarenthia Geer matched the first five numbers in the drawing. Geer bought her winning ticket at Kroger,  3030 Headland Drive,  Atlanta.  Winning numbers from the historic drawing were: 2-4-23-38-46 and the Mega Ball was 23.  She's one of six Georgia Lottery players to each win a $250,000 prize. Other $250,000 winning Mega Millions tickets were sold in Marietta, Athens, Sandersville, Waco and Ellabell, according to the Georgia Lottery.

Mega Millions tickets are sold in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Three tickets sold -- one each in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland -- matched all five numbers plus the Mega Ball to win last Friday’s jackpot.

The record $656 million jackpot generated $25.2 million in profits for education in Georgia, state lottery officials said.

Georgia Lottery profits go toward the state’s HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs.
