Kelly Sanders, 28, of Atlanta, has been charged with felony murder, criminal attempt to commit a felony and trafficking in methamphetamine.

Lawrenceville police have arrested an Atlanta woman on a charge of felony murder in what Capt. Greg Vaughn called a “drug deal gone bad.”

Officers found Eugene Cary Singletary, 53, lying unresponsive in the parking lot of the Villa Inn and Suites motel in Lawrenceville on Jan. 22 shortly before 11 p.m. He had a gun near his head, but a police report did not say where he was shot. He was declared dead from a gunshot wound after being transported to a hospital.

Kelly Elizabeth Sanders, 28, was arrested the next day and charged with felony murder, trafficking in methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit a felony. Police do not believe that Sanders is the person who shot Singletary, Channel 2 Action News reported, but she is charged with felony murder under Georgia’s party to a crime statute. That statute says that anyone allegedly involved in committing a crime that results in a homicide can be charged with felony murder.

Police are searching for Chaz Conley, who is believed to be the one who shot Singletary, Vaughn said.

Chaz Conley is wanted by the Lawrenceville Police Department on a charge of felony murder.
