Atlanta weather: Week starts out hot and dry

Metro Atlantans can expect highs in the 90s this week as afternoons bring on the summer heat. Meanwhile tropical storm Debby flirts with becoming a hurricane and attracts wary eyes in Alabama and Florida.

"Hot afternoons will continue through the week as we keep a watch on tropical storm Debby in the Gulf of Mexico," said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz. Coastal Alabama and parts of Florida, including the Panhandle, remain under tropical storm warnings for Monday.

"The forecast track is highly uncertain for Debby, but it appears most likely that it will move very slowly for at least the next couple of days, spreading wind and rain across the northern Gulf coast and the Florida peninsula," Nitz added. "That would keep the rain well to our south and mean only isolated afternoon showers and storms locally.

The high Monday in metro Atlanta is expected to reach 92, with the chance of an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. Tuesday will again be mostly sunny and hot.
